Revoke Customer Access
Revoking access takes something away from one customer without deleting it, unlinking it, or touching any other order. You can restore it at any time. Use it while you investigate suspected fraud, to take back a file attached by mistake, or to remove one item from an order for any reason.
Revoking vs. returning
A return reflects something that happened in Shopify: the customer returned or was refunded for an item. Revoking is your own decision, made in the app. Nothing in Shopify changes because of it, and nothing in Shopify undoes it.
What you can revoke
| Revoke | Takes away | Where |
|---|---|---|
| A whole order | Every line item on it, content and license keys alike. | The order's settings |
| One line item | Everything on that line item. | Editing the order |
| One piece of content | A single file or link on a single line item. The rest of the order is untouched. | Editing the order |
Each is undone with Restore Access in the same place.
Revoking is the way to take content that comes from the product away from one customer. Unlinking it would remove it from every order for that product, so a single order can only revoke it. See Linking Content.
What the customer sees
Whatever you revoke disappears from their order status extension. Even if the customer tries to access content or license keys via an old link or previously opened order status page the content and license keys will not be returned to the customer.
| You revoke | The customer sees |
|---|---|
| A whole order | The extension block no longer appears on the order. |
| A line item | The product is no longer listed, along with its content and license keys. |
| A piece of content | That content is no longer listed. If every piece of content on a line item has been revoked, its download button is disabled with a No Content Available to Download message, the same as a product with no content. |
