Orders From Before the App Was Installed
Most stores already have orders in Shopify from before they installed Digital Content Manager. The app records the date your store installed it, and any order created before that date is handled more cautiously, because the app has no history for it.
Why they're handled differently
Treating an old order like a new one could cost you license keys, or put used keys back into circulation:
- Wasting keys. Automatically assigning keys to old orders would pull keys from your inventory for orders that may already have been fulfilled some other way.
- Restocking used keys. The app can't know whether a key on an old order was already revealed or used, so restocking it could send a used key to a new customer.
What the app won't do automatically
For orders created before the app was installed, the app will not automatically:
- Create the order. Daily order reconciliation, manual syncs, and Shopify events such as an order being paid or refunded won't add these orders to the app.
- Assign license keys, even if the quantity in Shopify is higher than the number of keys on the order.
- Restock license keys. Keys that come back stay returned, and are never put back in your inventory. This applies to returns, refunds and chargebacks, even with your restock settings turned on.
Import old Orders
To manage one of these orders in the app, import it. It comes in without license keys, and you edit the order to add them yourself.
After an order is imported
Imported orders stay in sync with Shopify like any other order, with the license key restrictions above. Reconciliation still:
- syncs order name, date and customer changes,
- syncs returned line items, and
- marks license keys as returned when the quantity in Shopify goes down, for example after a refund. The keys are returned, not restocked.
New line items on an old order
If a line item is added in Shopify to an order from before the app was installed, that new line item is assigned license keys from your inventory, the same as a new order.
Because this uses keys from your inventory, the app raises a warning alert, License keys assigned to an order from before the app was installed, so you can confirm the change was expected. See Alerts & Notifications.
