License Keys
Sell license keys, activation codes and other types of keys. Stock a pool for each product, and the app assigns one per unit sold, tracks every reveal, and puts unused keys back in stock after returns.
How license keys work
- Product Configuration: Add keys to a Download & License product. They wait, unassigned, until they're needed.
- Order Processing: The app assigns one key from the pool for every unit bought. The key is now assigned to that customer.
- Customer Activity Tracking: They click Reveal License Key on their order status page. Each reveal is logged with the date, IP address, and device.
- Lifecycle Managed Automatically:
- Returns, refunds, and chargebacks are managed for you and the key is returned. The customer can no longer reveal it or view it in their order status page.
- A returned key the customer never revealed can be restocked, ready to sell again. The app does this automatically if Auto Restock Inventory is on.
- A key the customer revealed is never restocked automatically, because they may already be using it.
- For Download & License products, the app can keep Shopify's inventory equal to the number of unassigned keys. Shopify then stops selling the product when its pool is empty, instead of taking orders you can't deliver. See Auto Sync Inventory.
