Key Uniqueness

Default: Off

By default, a key must be unique within a product: you can't add ABCD-1234 to the same product twice. But the same key can exist in two different products.

Turn on Enforce Globally Unique Keys to stop that, so every key is unique across your whole store.

When to turn it on

Turn it on if the same key could accidentally be loaded into two products, for example when one supplier's batch covers several editions. Without it, two customers buying different products could receive the same key.

Leave it off if you deliberately sell the same key in more than one product, such as a key that unlocks a bundle sold as several listings.

Things to know

  • Existing duplicates must go first. If your keys already include the same key in more than one product, the setting can't be turned on yet. The app lists each duplicate, with the products it appears in, so you can delete or replace them.
  • New duplicates are skipped. Once it's on, adding a key that already exists in any product is skipped as a duplicate.
  • Deleted keys don't count. You can add a key again after deleting it.
