Duplicate Links

A piece of content can only be linked to a product, variant or line item once. If you try to link content somewhere it's already delivered, the app skips it instead of creating a second link.

What counts as a duplicate

A Product/Variant link already delivers its content on every order of that product. So linking the same content to one of those orders' line items would give the customer the same content twice, and counts as a duplicate too.

Linking content to...It's a duplicate if the content is already linked to...
A product or variantThat product or variant
A line itemThat line item, or the line item's product or variant

What happens

Content that's already linked is left out of your choices where possible. When you link in bulk, anything already linked is skipped, and the confirmation tells you how many links were created and how many were skipped, for example "3 links created, 2 already linked".

Sometimes content is linked to a line item first, and later you link the same content to that line item's product or variant. Because the Product/Variant link covers every order, it replaces the Line Item link. There's no duplicate, and nothing for you to clean up.

The customer's access carries over from the Line Item link:

  • Download limit: downloads they've already used still count, so they don't get a fresh allowance. Any resets you gave them are kept.
  • Time limit: the time limit keeps counting from the same starting point, so access doesn't expire early or get extended.
  • Download history: past downloads stay on the order. They now show as coming through the product instead of the line item.
caution

The original Line Item link is removed, not hidden. If you later unlink the content from the product or variant, those orders lose it too. To give a single order access again, link the content to its line item.
